  • You probably grabbed this beer thinking you were going to have a good time. WRONG. You’re about to learn stuff! In the 18th century the English were really into brewing beers that travelled well, as they were preoccupied with not minding their own business. Strong dark beers gained popularity in surrounding regions, and eventually other folks started brewing versions themselves. It happens to be particularly chilly around the Baltic Sea, so lager yeast (which ferments at cooler temperatures than ale yeast), was used as it’s what works better when it’s nippy out. Next thing you know, you’ve got Baltic Porter, which is essentially a lagered version of a strong porter or imperial stout that wins national awards for a rinky-dink little brewery in Edmonton. It's also dark, like Space.
